Veterans
For Peace
Dear Ron Kohl,
To all of you who have supported
the VFP Golden Rule Project financially – this year, and in previous years
– please accept our heartfelt thanks!
We also want to thank the
volunteers who are directly helping, and the many others who have helped
in the past, donating precious hours of their lives. Without the
generous support of both kinds, the Golden Rule would not be sailing today,
and thousands of people would not know that the Golden Rule exists or the
importance of a nuclear-free, peaceful, sustainable world.
The
2015 season was fun and successful
We made stops in ten cities,
with hundreds of visitors and thousands seeing the Golden Rule from shore!
The November 2015 issue of Golden Rule News tells the story with lots of
pictures and you can read or download it here.
Several of us are busy with
maintenance, repairs, and modifications to the Golden Rule and preparing
her for educating and activating the public in 2016.
We hope you will help get
Golden Rule ship-shape by making a year-end tax-deductible donation.
Donors who give at least $100 become official Plank Owners and get a beautiful
Plank
Owner Certificate suitable for framing.
We’re
excited about the summer 2016 voyage to the Pacific Northwest!
Starting in June, The VFP
Golden Rule Project will collaborate with local activists and experts in
areas we visit to tell our story and to amplify nuclear, peace, and environmental
messages in a dramatic way! With her red sails emblazoned with a
huge peace symbol and VFP logo, the Golden Rule will be hard to miss when
she sails by the Trident Nuclear Submarine base on Hood Canal or arrives
into Elliott Bay in Seattle during Fleet Week and SeaFair.
In each port, the public
will be invited to tour the boat. Friends and supporters can even
go sailing with us! By educating as many people as possible
and helping them connect with local anti-nuclear, peace and environmental
groups, we will influence a change in public culture and push policy makers
to abolish nuclear weapons, convert to safe energy sources, clean up radioactive
waste, abolish war, and transition to a more just, sustainable economy.
Please help us get the Golden
Rule to the Pacific Northwest with your tax-deductible donation.
Tentative plans: A Peace
Boat in contrast to the parade of war ships of Fleet Week in Portland and
Seattle; attending the Lake Union and Pt. Townsend Wooden Boat Festivals;
and events at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation and the Bangor Trident Nuclear
Submarine Base. The Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action, located
right at the Bangor base and protesting against the nuclear warheads there
for many years, is a key partner for this momentous voyage. For more
information about plans for 2016, click here.
As Restoration Coordinator
Chuck DeWitt said, “The Golden Rule is a weapon of mass education!”
This is truly a grass-roots
effort and hundreds of donations have made the five-year reconstruction
of the boat and the 2015 sail to San Diego and back possible. With
your support we can continue this important work! Can you support
the Golden Rule with a charitable
gift during this holiday season? Any amount you can contribute is greatly
appreciated!
