Martin (Marty) Alfred Asbacher, USN (Ret.)
VSF-1 Commanding Officer during 1968 Mediterranean aboard the USS Independence CDR Martin Alfred Asbacher, 77, of Southern Shores, NC, died Monday, May 21, 2007 at his residence. Born in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Martin and Marie Hogan Asbacher. He was a retired Commander in the U.S. Navy having served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Mr. Asbacher was a graduate of the Naval War College of Newport, RI and was Commanding Officer of the Attack Squadron VSF-1. Mr. Asbacher is survived by his wife, Dolores Reifert Asbacher; six daughters, Susan Keffer and husband George of New Market, MD, Janet Carder and husband Rick of Gaithersburg, MD, Kathleen Kvedar and husband John of Columbia, MD, Debra Asbacher and partner Kim of Glendale, AZ, Patricia Mercer and husband Glenn of Gold Canyon, AZ, and Karen Crane and husband Allen of Ellicott City, MD; four sons, Michael Asbacher of Rockville, MD, Timothy Asbacher and wife Sandy of Sykesville, MD, Kevin Asbacher and fiance', Frances of Jupiter, FL and Steven Asbacher and wife Jennifer of Olney, MD; a sister, Marie Eisler and husband Frederick of Dumont, NJ; sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family will
receive friends at Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo on Saturday, May 26,
2007 from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
